Identity Crisis

A stealth-exploration game made in 48 hours for Global Game Jam 2026 with a team of 9. I implemented the camera scanning mechanic and all menu UIs.

Identity Crisis

What did I do?

  • Camera scanning of enemies implementation
  • Designed and programmed the Menu UIs

For the Global Game Jam 2026, I participated together with 8 peers to create a game in 48 hours. The theme was “Mask”.

“You are someone who doesn’t know how to express yourself. As you move through the world, you observe and photograph people, trying to mimic their expressions using masks you create. Can you find yourself in a haze of everyone else?”

Features

  • Camera Mode through which you can scan and capture enemies’ emotions in the form of masks
  • Photo Gallery through which you can browse the scanned/captured enemies from before
  • Collect mask parts to form a new mask
  • Stealth

What I Learned

My main technical challenge was implementing the scanning of the enemies in camera mode. This experience helped me think more carefully about implementing a core mechanic under pressure, and reinforced the value of reaching for the simplest solution first rather than overcomplicating things immediately.

My other challenge was implementing and designing the various menu UIs without a dedicated UI designer on the team. Getting to experiment a bit more artistically than usual was a welcome change, and the positive feedback from peers on it was encouraging.
